It's the first time in at least five years that another club has hired away a coach from the Phillies' MLB staff.

A day after losing assistant pitching coach Brian Kaplan to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Phillies promoted 32-year-old Mark Lowy to fill his role on the coaching staff.

The Phillies have promoted Mark Lowy to assistant pitching coach, the team announced Wednesday. Lowy, 32, replaces Brian Kaplan, who was hired by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday to be their pitching coach.

The Diamondbacks announced that Brian Kaplan, formerly with the Philadelphia Phillies, will be their new pitching coach after firing Brent Strom.

Kaplan, 42, specializes in the training and development of pitchers, with an emphasis on biomechanics, and had not coached in pro ball before the Phillies hired him in 2022.
